Wynns Coonawarra Estate was the first winery to be established in the
Coonawarra, by John Riddoch in 1896. The winery is located on the world
famous strip of 'Terra Rossa' soil that produces fruit of an exceptional quality.
This year's Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Shiraz Merlot is a fine
example of the style. Wynns Cabernet Shiraz Merlot is a rich and complex
wine with enhanced softness derived from the blending of these three classic
red grape varieties. Its soft fruit plus judicious oak handling is well balanced
and has created a wine perfect for current drinking or short-term cellaring, reflecting its regionality.
The first Wynns red blend (a Cabernet Sauvignon - Shiraz or "Hermitage as Shiraz was referred to then) was produced in 1969 making this "Red Stripe"
red blend the 39th vintage.
